Welcome to the DJCC

The Democratic Judicial Campaign Committee is the only organization whose primary mission is to elect Democratic and progressive judges to state appellate courts. In the early 1990s, large corporate interests began buying control of many of our state Supreme Courts and many of our lower courts. Orchestrated by a political consultant named Karl Rove, these campaigns began in Texas and Alabama, spending millions of dollars. Today, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce pours millions of dollars in judicial races every year. Our aim is to bring Democratic and progressive groups together to combat the corporate takeover of our state appellate courts. Over the past few years, we have had great success in every state where we've competed.

The Democratic Judicial Campaign Committee keeps a close eye on the judicial landscape in 22 states that elect their appellate judges.

The good news is that in states where we have elected judges, Democratic or progressive candidates have a good track record.

Of the eight states that hold partisan elections, five of those states have Democratic-majorities on their Supreme Court.

Of the 14 states where judicial races are non-partisan, eight of those states have progressive majorities.

Judicial Landscape Of the 22 states where judges are elected, Democrats or progressive judges hold a majority of the seats.

The Democratic Judicial Campaign Committee does not try to be all things to all campaigns. Our approach to assisting campaigns is different than organizations like the DCCC and the DSCC. We work not only with campaigns but with special interest groups in the state to provide needed resources leading up to and throughout an election.

Our focus is on providing opposition research, polling and focus group information. We help campaigns find political operatives who have had success in winning judicial races. And we offer networking opportunities with candidates who have faced similar races before.

DJCC Philosophy Our goal is to provide information and resources to help Democratic and progressive candidates win.

The best way to judge our work is by our success.

The Democratic Judicial Campaign Committee has been involved in some of the most difficult races in the past two years. More importantly, we’ve been on the winning side.

In conservative states like Mississippi and Alabama, we have helped unseat powerful incumbents backed by Republican governors. In more progressive states like Michigan, we have helped raise the profile of judicial races to ensure fair-minded judges are elected.

Our Success The DJCC has enjoyed success in conservative Southern states and progressive Northern states.
